This morning, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana, along with the Executive Director of the Judicial Training Institute (JTI), Justice Damalie Lwanga, and the Chief Registrar, HW Sarah Langa Siu, visited Nakasongola to survey the land allocated for the construction of the new Judicial Training Institute.
Before surveying the land, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary (PS/SJ) and Chief Registrar (CR) conducted an inspection of the Chief Magistrate's Court in Nakasongola, where they were warmly received by HW Hope Bagyenda, the Chief Magistrate.
During the inspection, the PS/SJ and CR expressed their satisfaction with the cleanliness, and organization of the exhibit store, which they described as the best they had ever seen. They also observed that the staff were content with the leadership of Chief Magistrate HW Hope Bagyenda.
Dr Bigirimana recommended to the Chief Registrar that the Chief Magistrate should be considered for higher responsibilities.
The archives were found to be up to standard, although the court had not yet been integrated onto the Court Case Administration System.
The PS/SJ and CR were particularly impressed by the staff's innovative efforts, such as the creation of a childcare canter to support breastfeeding mothers and their children. They also commended the engineering team for the quality work done during the renovations of the court.
From the Court, they were taken on a guided tour of the 17-acre land earmarked for the construction of the Judicial Training Institute. This visit was part of the preparations for building a wall fence around the property.
Plans for the JTI include the construction of a 2000-seater auditorium, classrooms, accommodation facilities (executive and non-executive rooms, and hostels) to host over 800 participants, a gym, a sports centre, gardens, and other amenities.
